A family of four, including two 11-year-old boys and their parents, were rescued after being stranded in rising waters near the Neuse River on Sunday evening. The family had been kayaking when strong storms caused the water to rise, leaving them stuck.
First responders, including four swift water rescue crews, Johnston County EMS, and multiple fire departments, responded to the scene to assist in the search and rescue efforts. The family was later found almost 200 yards away from their initial location near the Neuse River bridge, with no injuries reported.
