A targeted mass shooting in Illinois on Sunday left five family members dead and two others seriously injured. Two 16-year-old suspects are in custody.

Police said the shootings occurred at multiple locations in East St. Louis, including at 39th and Summit, the Gompers public housing project, and Jones Park. The motive behind the shootings is still unknown.
Charges have not yet been filed against the suspects. Officials described the incident as a “terrible, terrible act of violence” and said there was no known threat to the public.
