An Oklahoma City volleyball team celebrated their national championship victory by placing the trophy in a case dedicated to a late supporter, Marty Proper. Marty Proper, described by his wife Rachel as ‘just your typical volleyball dad,’ was a passionate supporter of his daughter Tess’s team.
A Devoted Father
He loved this team. He loved watching his daughter play,” said Lisa Polcovich, the Oklahoma Peak Volleyball 13-1 elite head coach. Last fall, Marty Proper witnessed the team win a national qualifier, a moment he cherished deeply.
Tragically, Marty Proper suffered a fatal heart attack while the team was traveling home, leaving his family and the team devastated. To honor Marty’s memory and his love for volleyball, his family decided to create a trophy case inspired by something he often said.
“He used to tease all the time that Pete was going to need a trophy case because our team, we’re going to bring home so much hardware,” Rachel Proper said. Now, Marty’s daughter and her team have fulfilled his dream by bringing home the national championship trophy, which now sits proudly in the case dedicated to him.
