FIFA officials will discuss the possibility of expanding the World Cup by another 16 teams before the 2030 event, according to president Gianni Infantino.
Infantino stated that growing from 48 to 64 teams could make sense, as it would allow more nations to participate and dream of competing in the World Cup.
Expansion Plans
The current 2026 edition is the first with 48 teams, and Infantino considers it a huge success, with every team playing at a high level and teams from every continent scoring goals and earning points.
The 2030 tournament will be a multi-continent effort, with the first three matches scheduled to be played in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay, and the remaining games staged in Morocco, Portugal, and Spain.
