Pennsylvania Reviews Bryce Harper Video

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is reviewing a video from Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper to a FanDuel bettor who claims to have struggled with a gambling addiction. The video was acquired by FanDuel through Cameo, where Harper charges $899, and sent to Terry Thompson, who lost $1.5 million gambling and was formally diagnosed with a gambling addiction disorder.

Thompson’s Lawsuit

Thompson has filed a lawsuit against FanDuel, accusing the company of enabling his gambling addiction through promotional offers and gifts. He claims that his FanDuel VIP host, Bryttani Morgan, offered him Super Bowl tickets, accommodations, and other luxuries to keep him gambling on the online sportsbook.

The lawsuit states that Morgan suggested Thompson take a break after a rough stretch, but shortly afterward got in touch with him about an emergency, which was actually an offer of another Super Bowl gift package. Thompson continued to lose large sums of money on the FanDuel Sportsbook App, and Morgan continued to supply him with free tickets to Philadelphia sporting events and free betting credits.

FanDuel’s Response

FanDuel has stated that it is committed to fostering a culture of responsible gaming and protecting its customers. The company claims that its employees are trained to recognize and flag signs of problem gambling and offer resources and tools to help customers.

However, when asked if Thompson was offered resources and tools to combat his addiction, one of his attorneys pointed to the suggested break, which was not followed up with any further support.

Bryce Harper does not have an endorsement deal with FanDuel and has not commented publicly on the situation.
