Artificial intelligence has seeped into almost every aspect of modern life, including dating. However, relationship experts fear that the increased use of AI in dating could lead to disastrous results. Jackie Dorman, founder of the ‘Last Year Single’ program, told Fox News Digital that she’s increasingly seeing people turn to ChatGPT and other AI tools to help them navigate the dating market.
Outsourcing Conversations and Emotional Decision-Making
Dorman warned that outsourcing conversations and emotional decision-making could interfere with the development of relationship skills. ‘It’s making us relationally stupid,’ she said. Dr. Christina Tracy Stein, a licensed marriage and family therapist, also cautioned against relying too heavily on chatbots and risking using them to replace authentic human communication.
Stein believes that rather than creating new problems, AI is exacerbating existing issues in the dating world. She said people have long presented idealized versions of themselves early in relationships and that AI simply makes it easier for them to polish that image. Both Dorman and Stein expressed concern about the rise of AI companions, warning that relationships with AI are ‘very one-sided’ and lack accountability.
