A preliminary hearing was held in Provo, Utah, for Tyler Robinson, the 23-year-old man accused of killing pro-life advocate Charlie Kirk. The hearing, which lasted five days, presented evidence from prosecutors, including surveillance footage and alleged messages from Robinson that prosecutors describe as a confession.
Key Evidence Presented
Prosecutors played surveillance footage that allegedly showed Robinson on the Utah Valley University campus four times in the hours before and after Kirk was killed. They also presented a videotaped interview with Lance Twiggs, Robinson’s former roommate and romantic partner, who said Robinson expressed regret the day after the shooting.
Twiggs also described finding a note from Robinson, which was entered into evidence and read aloud in court. The note said, in part, ‘If you are reading this per my text, then I am so sorry. I left the house this morning on a mission, and set an auto text. I am likely dead, or facing a lengthy prison sentence. I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I took it.’
Prosecutors also displayed the results from ballistics and DNA testing that they argue links Robinson to the alleged murder weapon: a semi-automatic rifle found wrapped in a towel in a wooded area near campus.
