CM Punk appeared on Friday Night SmackDown, ready to take on any challenger for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Punk had previously won the title against Sami Zayn.
Punk called out several potential SmackDown superstars, including Gunther, Finn Balor, and Damian Priest, but did not mention Cody Rhodes. However, Rhodes came out and marched down to the ring, saying he and Punk could no longer avoid each other.
SummerSlam Match Announced
Punk and Rhodes agreed to a match, which was booked by SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis for SummerSlam on August 1 and 2 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
Punk and Rhodes will also face each other in a tag team match at Saturday Night’s Main Event in New York City, where they will team up with other wrestlers.
