Fort Worth Seeks Volunteers for Code Rangers Program

The city of Fort Worth is seeking volunteers for its Code Rangers program, which trains members to identify suspected code violations and report them. The free program is run through the Fort Worth Code Compliance Department, with the next training scheduled for August 8.

Program Details

The Code Rangers program aims to promote healthy neighborhoods through community empowerment and action. When a Code Ranger reports a suspected violation, the city issues courtesy letters to the property owners and residents, educating them and promoting voluntary compliance.

The program covers a range of potential violations, including parking on lawns, obstructing sidewalks, and storing items in yards. Code Rangers are also trained on residents’ rights and volunteer conduct parameters, including not carrying guns or photographing suspected violations.

Training and Reporting

The training includes information on privacy, residents’ rights, and volunteer conduct. Code Rangers are encouraged to report suspected violations, which can lead to legal measures by the city if necessary. The city seeks equitable treatment of everyone and emphasizes that the program is designed to be safe for volunteers.

Potential volunteers can register online for the next training session. The city also welcomes feedback on the program, including suggestions for improving courtesy letters and language used to notify residents.
