A state park in Maine is closed to swimming after a shark sighting on Thursday, the second sighting there in the past week. The Town of Georgetown said in a Facebook post around 1:30 p.m. Thursday that Reid State Park has reported that swimming is closed due to a shark sighting.
They urged people to “stay safe, be alert, and enjoy Georgetown.” The town is advising parkgoers to stay vigilant and safe by following lifeguard instructions, signs, and warning flags.
Officials also advise parkgoers to stay close to the shore in case rescuers need to reach them. Water activities like swimming, kayaking, paddling, and surfing, should be done in groups with little splashing, they said.
