A Craighead County man is facing multiple felony charges after a drug investigation and traffic stop led investigators to alleged methamphetamine delivery, pills and a semi-automatic rifle, according to probable cause affidavits.
Investigation and Arrest
Cordarious Lamar Jones was arrested after agents with the 2nd Judicial District Drug Task Force conducted a traffic stop on June 30 on a tan and black 2012 Chevrolet Impala near South Caraway Road and East Parker Road.
According to an affidavit, Jones had a valid felony warrant for delivery of methamphetamine greater than 2 grams but less than 10 grams. After contact was made with him as the driver, he was taken into custody without incident.
Agents said they saw pills in Jones’ hand and noticed he was trying to conceal them under his leg. Jones told agents the pills were Oxycodone, which he said he took for back pain, but he did not have a prescription for them, according to the affidavit.
Agents reported finding 12 pills total. Six and one-half pills were found in a blue container, three were 7.5/325 and the remaining three and one-half were 10/325 Oxycodone, according to the affidavit.
Agents also found a black Glock 30 .45-caliber semi-automatic rifle with a 13-round magazine in the center console. The affidavit states the magazine had been reported stolen. Jones told agents he had owned the semi-automatic rifle “a long time ago” and purchased it legally, according to the affidavit.
Investigators said Jones has a prior Class C felony conviction from Sept. 1, 2016, classifying him as a felon.
Charges and Next Court Date
A second affidavit said the Drug Task Force had been investigating Jones after receiving information from a confidential informant alleging Jones was selling methamphetamine and other narcotics.
During the investigation, agents conducted a controlled purchase of methamphetamine from Jones between May 6 and June 3, according to the affidavit. The substance later field tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed 3.5 grams, agents said.
Jones was arrested for simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, a Class Y felony; possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance, a Class D felony; possession of a firearm by certain persons, a Class D felony; and delivery of methamphetamine or cocaine greater than 2 grams but less than 10 grams, a Class B felony.
His next court date was set for Aug. 21.
A temporary bond was first set at $150,000 cash or surety by Judge Tommy Fowler. On Wednesday, Judge David Boling signed a finding of probable cause and set bail at $35,000 cash or surety. The bond runs concurrent with the delivery case.
