The Wake County Sheriff’s Office is launching a community camera-sharing program to help track down footage and solve crimes more quickly. The ‘Connect Wake’ program allows residents and business owners to register their security cameras with the agency, providing an interactive map of registered cameras and contact information for potential video evidence sources.
How it Works
Participants will not be required to provide live access to their camera footage. Instead, they will be contacted by the sheriff’s office if a crime occurs in their area, and they can choose to share their footage with investigators. Sasha Godwin, an intelligence unit manager with the sheriff’s office, said the program will help deputies track down suspects more efficiently.
The sheriff’s office will be holding three information sessions around the county to educate the public about the program. The sessions will be held at the Wake County Northern Regional Center, Wake County Southern Regional Center, and Wake County Eastern Regional Center.
