A young cat was found abandoned overnight in a parking lot in Seymour on Wednesday morning, and animal control officers are asking the public to help identify the person who left him there.
The male gray-and-black tabby was discovered in a parking lot in the 100 block of South Main Street around 8 a.m., after being left in a crate with no food or water, according to Woodbridge Regional Animal Control.
Officials said people who worked at a location near the parking lot left around 4 p.m. on Tuesday and returned around 8 a.m. Wednesday, when they found the “frightened but very friendly” cat.
“The cat was frozen in place and unwilling to move,” animal control said in a Facebook post.
The cat is now safe and in the care of Woodbridge Regional Animal Control, according to the agency.
“This is a heartbreaking reminder that indoor cats do not know how to survive when they are dumped outside,” animal control said in the post. “They often become overwhelmed with fear, remain in one spot, and are vulnerable to predators, traffic, dehydration, starvation, and extreme weather.”
Woodbridge Regional Animal Control is asking anyone who may have witnessed the cat being abandoned between 4 p.m. on Tuesday and 8 a.m. on Wednesday, or who has information about the person responsible, to call them at 203-389-5991.
