Models in ballooning gowns, voluminous capes, and pants embroidered with ostrich feathers walked a circular catwalk in Paris on Wednesday, showcasing designer Pierpaolo Piccioli’s debut haute couture collection for Balenciaga.
The autumn/winter looks included cashmere coats, long leather gloves, and gowns covered in feathers. The collection’s non-conventional, architectural fashions were reminiscent of the label’s founder, Cristobal Balenciaga.
Piccioli, who previously spent 16 years as creative director of Valentino, took over at Balenciaga a year ago. The brand is one of the smaller fashion houses under the Kering luxury group, which also owns Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, and Bottega Veneta.
After the show, Piccioli emerged with 30 of his top creatives, all wearing white lab coats, to applause from front-row guests, including actors Demi Moore and Cynthia Erivo, and Kering CEO Luca de Meo.
