The Jesse White Tumblers, a Chicago-based youth tumbling team, stunned judges on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, earning a standing ovation and four ‘yes’ votes to advance to the next round.
Local Roots, National Stage
Formed 67 years ago by former Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White, the team has been providing structure, community, and opportunities for Chicago’s youth. The team’s performance on America’s Got Talent marked a highlight in their history, with the youngest tumbler being just 8 years old.
The team, known for their iconic red uniforms, has been performing at parades and events across the Chicago area and has traveled internationally to places like Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Belize. Their appearance on America’s Got Talent was a first for many of the tumblers, who had never been on an airplane or stayed in a hotel before.
A Program for Life
The Jesse White Tumbling Team is more than just a gymnastics program – it teaches kids to love their fellow man and woman, and prepares them for life. The program offers homework help, tutoring, and other academic resources, and requires team members to maintain a C average.
Team tryouts are offered multiple times a year, and boys and girls ages 6 through 16 with basic tumbling skills can be invited to join. Practices are held at Tuley Park and the Jesse White Community Center in Chicago.
