New Hope’s Gate Thrift Store Opens in Wylie to Support Expectant Mothers

Hope’s Gate Thrift Store opened at 201 E. Butler St. in Wylie and is run by manager Brennan Barbara with support from Youth With A Mission; proceeds benefit Hope’s Bridge Pregnancy Resource Center and the shop offers clothing, home decor, books, toys and furniture to the local community.

Wylie shoppers now have a fresh option for bargains and community support with the arrival of Hope’s Gate Thrift Store. The shop sits on East Butler and shares a mission with its sister spot, Hope’s Gate Boutique downtown. The thrift store blends practical finds with a purpose-driven approach to shopping.

Manager Brennan Barbara explains the store’s mission plainly: “We’re a nonprofit organization, and our proceeds go to women facing unplanned pregnancies.” That mission shapes everything from what gets stocked to how volunteers are recruited. Customers can feel good that purchases do something beyond clearing a closet.

The thrift floor carries a wide mix of items so there’s something for almost everyone. You’ll find clothes and accessories alongside home decor, books, games, toys and occasional furniture pieces. Volunteers and staff sort donations to keep the shop varied and interesting for repeat visits.

Donations are the lifeblood of the operation, and the team is asking the community to bring usable goods. “We really take anything and everything,” Barbara said, emphasizing a generous intake policy. “What we are wanting to do is not turn down donations so that we can help the community around us.”

To keep standards high, the thrift store asks that donations be gently used or new so items are ready for resale. Donation hours are set aside during the week and the store also accepts items during regular storefront hours. For questions, the shop can be reached by phone at 972-385-0702 or by email at [email protected].

The effort to open the store was about more than renting space; it took nearly a year of work from volunteers who pitched in on location hunting, fundraising yard sales and renovations. Youth With A Mission volunteers were heavily involved in that push to get the doors ready. Their hands-on work made the May 9 opening possible.

Beyond raising money for Hope’s Bridge Pregnancy Resource Center, the thrift shop aims to build community connections and offer a place where people can pass along things they no longer need. The store is positioned as a neighborhood hub where thrift meets service. Barbara frames the operation as faith-led, community-focused action.

“We have been working hard to get ready for everybody to come in and come shop,” Barbara said, reinforcing that the shop is intended as a welcoming spot. “We really are doing this as a ministry.” That tone comes through in how the store accepts donations and plans volunteer involvement.

Volunteer roles are expected to open to the public soon, giving residents a chance to help run the shop and support local services. The thrift store also serves as a tangible way for Wylie residents to support Hope’s Bridge Pregnancy Resource Center without writing a check. Shoppers get bargains and the community wins a new place to recycle useful goods.
