Walmart announced it has lowered prices on thousands of products through rollbacks and club offers nationwide. The company said the price cuts are designed to help customers and members make the most of the season.
Trump Claims Influence
President Donald Trump is claiming that Walmart Inc. lowered its prices recently at his request. However, Walmart’s news release did not mention Trump and says the rollbacks are meant to help customers buying seasonal supplies.
Trump took credit for the price cuts, posting on Truth Social that he has “just been informed that one of the biggest, best, and smartest Retailers in America, Walmart, will be lowering prices, by a lot, at my Administration’s request to celebrate our great Country’s 250th birthday.”
Walmart has since filed its paperwork for a refund, an estimated $2.4 billion, or less than half of 1% of its annual U.S. sales. The Supreme Court’s ruling in February that Trump exceeded his authority in establishing the tariffs opened the way for companies to file for refunds for their portion of an estimated $166 billion.
