A high-end shampoo has been voluntarily recalled due to the detection of a bacteria that can cause infection in people with certain health issues. Kao USA is recalling select lots of its Oribe Serene Scalp Densifying Shampoo in the sizes 8.5 oz and 33.8 oz in the U.S. and Canada due to the detection of Pluralibacter gergoviae bacteria.

According to the FDA, the bacteria doesn’t pose much medical risk to healthy people, but people with health issues like weakened immune systems may be more susceptible to infection. Kao USA is urging anyone who has affected products, regardless of their health status, to stop using the shampoo.
The affected lot codes for the 8.5 oz size (UPC 840035231242) can be found on the bottom of the bottle printed in black and begin with the prefix “YR”: YR010556. The affected lot codes for the 33.8 oz size (UPC 840035231273) can be found on the bottom of the bottle printed in black and begin with the prefix “YR”: YR010566, YR010576.
