A 35-year-old woman from Marathon, Florida, was taken into custody after a standoff with Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies on July 6, 2026. The incident occurred at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Sombrero Beach Road.
According to authorities, Jennifer Lynn Secrest was armed with a knife and allegedly threatening law enforcement officers. Deputies reported that Secrest was intoxicated and waved the knife in the air while making threats.
During the confrontation, Secrest repeatedly dropped the knife but picked it up again, continuing to threaten the officers. Deputies eventually found an opportunity to safely separate her from the knife and take her into custody.
No injuries were reported during the encounter. Secrest was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly intoxication.
