New Mexico State University’s athletic director Joe Fields says the school’s short-term priority is to stay in Conference USA and dominate the league. This comes after Conference USA lost two teams, Louisiana Tech and UTEP, to other conferences.
Conference Realignment
Fields stated that the Aggies will focus on winning championships in every program within Conference USA. He believes that stacking CUSA titles can put NM State in a better position for potential future conference realignments.
While some individuals won CUSA titles last season, no Aggies team won a conference championship. The Aggies have significantly improved their NIL resources, with Fields saying that no other CUSA team has made a larger one-year investment.
CUSA will have 10 members this season, and there are currently no known plans for expansion. NM State is committed to CUSA and is preparing bids to host conference tournaments in sports like volleyball, soccer, baseball, and softball.
