A large fire started at a home on Hummingbird Lane in Lake Gaston during Fourth of July fireworks, according to the Lake Gaston Fire Department. The fire occurred around 9:30 p.m. Saturday night.
A witness, Jacob Williamson, sent video of the large flames to WRAL News, writing, “We saw it across the water [and] don’t know what had caused it, but there were a lot of fireworks around, so possibly that.”
Fireworks-Related Accidents
There were several fireworks-related accidents overnight. In Raleigh, an ember from fireworks started a small grass fire outside the Westin Hotel on Macaw Street, near Brier Creek, according to the Raleigh Fire Department.
In Morehead City, fireworks started a small fire on the roof of a two-story building. In Dunn, neighbors at an apartment complex told WRAL News a firework went inside an apartment window, starting a large fire that resulted in rescues.
A person was injured during a Wilson County fireworks display, and video shared with WRAL News shows fireworks touching the ground.
