A forest fire in southwest France has ravaged over 1,500 hectares of land and may threaten the third stage of the Tour de France, set to finish in Les Angles on Monday.
Firefighting Efforts
Some 750 firefighters, 200 vehicles, and nine water-bombing helicopters have been deployed to contain the fire in the Pyrenees-Orientales department.
No deaths have occurred, but two people, including a firefighter, are in critical condition. The fire is currently being fought to prevent it from spreading south toward the Tet river and the Aspres mountainous region.
In a separate incident, a wildfire in Spain’s Catalonia region has been stabilized, but high temperatures and fumes may still complicate efforts to extinguish it.
