Houston’s young artists are celebrating a milestone birthday in a big way. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Houston marked America’s 250th anniversary with the unveiling of a community mural titled “We the Kids” — a vibrant, youth-driven tribute to the nation’s historic sesquicentennial celebration.
The project brought together club members to contribute their creativity and voices to a piece of public art that reflects both their community pride and the spirit of America 250. The mural’s title is a playful nod to the preamble of the U.S. Constitution, centering children as active participants in the country’s ongoing story.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Houston has long served as a cornerstone of youth development across the city, providing after-school programs, mentorship, and enrichment opportunities to thousands of young Houstonians. This mural project added an artistic and civic dimension to that mission, giving kids a tangible way to connect with the nation’s history and celebrate it on their own terms.
The unveiling coincided with Fourth of July festivities, making it a fitting and uplifting addition to Houston’s America 250 commemorations. It stands as a colorful reminder that the next generation of Houstonians is ready, willing, and eager to leave their mark.
