Egypt’s head coach, Hossam Hassan, has responded after a heated argument with a Dallas Police Department (DPD) officer. The incident occurred when an Egyptian player was taking photos with fans, and Hassan attempted to get his player to move on. A DPD officer intervened, tapping Hassan on the chest, and the situation escalated.
According to the DPD, the incident occurred on July 2, 2026, at approximately 11:50 a.m., when the DPD responded to the Westin at the request of hotel security regarding an individual without event credentials who was attempting to gain access. The situation was resolved on the scene, and the DPD met with representatives of the team to address their concerns.
Hassan told the Associated Press through a translator that the team had accepted an apology from the police. “We are really happy to be here at this tournament and we are satisfied with the security personnel that are accompanying us,” Hassan said.
