A bear has died after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 84 East in West Hartford on Friday evening. State police said a 30-year-old man from Waterbury was traveling in the center lane of the highway near exit 41 around 9:30 p.m. when a bear ran from the left and into the center lanes.
According to troopers, the man was unable to avoid the bear and collided with it. The bear died as a result of the crash and the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection was notified. The driver of the vehicle complained of numbness in his fingers, but refused medical treatment.
