Our list looks beyond popular tourist destinations to find less-discovered communities with unique histories and curiosities. At No. 10 is Roanoke, Virginia, a gateway to outdoor adventures along the Appalachian Trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
America is home to many stunning destinations, with both natural and man-made wonders. This summer, a flotilla of tall ships and military vessels is making its way up the Atlantic Coast as part of the Sail250 event, stopping in New York and Boston.
