Celebrations in Louisville, southern Indiana kicked off the Fourth of July weekend at the Riverfront Amphitheater in New Albany, where dozens gathered to celebrate with live music and a festive atmosphere.
Community Comes Together
Many attendees said they came out not just for the entertainment, but to mark a meaningful moment for the country. “The Fourth of July, especially the 250th birthday, is a big deal to me,” said Abby Bartholomai.
Others said the event offered a chance to enjoy the holiday with the community. “I just come down here to enjoy the environment and be around good people,” said Joshua Johnson.
Dozens of people brought lawn chairs to sit back and listen to live music. Among them was Taylor Jones, who drove 10 hours from Virginia to take part in the festivities. “It’s something new to experience,” Jones said. “Everybody loves a new adventure from time to time.”
Giving Back
Celebrations were also happening across the river in St. Matthews. Louis Straub with Independence Bank said those who showed up were also giving back. “This festival is raising money for first responders,” Straub said. “So all the proceeds above the cost of the festival are going to the Saint Matthews Police, the Saint Matthews Fire and EMS Foundation, all of our first responders that take care of us every day.”
With games, inflatables, and ways to cool off from the summer heat, families had plenty of activities to enjoy. Vendors also said the event gave them a chance to connect with the community and grow their business.
