Thousands of people attended the Red Hot and Boom fireworks celebration at Cranes Roost Park in Altamonte Springs, despite the sweltering heat. The event, which kicked off the Fourth of July weekend, drew a crowd of over 200,000 people, according to the Seminole County Fire Department.
The heat was a major challenge for attendees, with the Seminole County Fire Department responding to at least 35 calls for help, including five heat-related emergencies. One patient was transported to the hospital.
Attendees described the conditions as “hot, very hot” and “very humid, sticky, and gross.” However, many said the celebration was worth the sweat. “It’s tolerable, it’s hot, but it’s worth it,” said William Hanner. “It’s Florida. You gotta have a little bit of heat.”
The event featured live performances and a fireworks display, with many attendees arriving hours early to secure prime viewing spots. Fans, water bottles, and the event’s mist tent were popular refuges from the heat throughout the day.
