An 18-month-old boy, Vincent Lorenzo Fiordilino, was pronounced dead at a hospital in Arizona after being found unresponsive in a pool. However, nearly six hours later, he was found breathing in the hospital’s morgue.
Investigation Underway
The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the near-drowning and the events that led to the boy being declared dead. The Gilbert Police Department has recommended that the boy’s parents be charged with child abuse, as they may have been impaired by marijuana at the time of the incident.
The hospital, Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, has conducted its own internal investigation into the matter, but the results have not been released. The doctor who pronounced the boy dead, A. Toosi, has been identified in the police report, but the hospital has not commented on his current status.
Vincent is currently breathing with the assistance of a ventilator and will require ongoing medical monitoring and therapy. A crowdfunding page has been set up to help with his medical costs.
