Cape Verdeans in Brockton, Massachusetts, gathered to watch their country’s World Cup game against Argentina, despite a curfew in place to prevent violence.
Community Pride
The curfew, which required people to be home by 10 p.m., was implemented due to previous incidents of violence and disorderly conduct during Cape Verde’s World Cup matches.
At least nine people were arrested after Cape Verde’s World Cup opener, and several people were injured in shootings during subsequent celebrations.
Many fans tried to watch the game at local restaurants, but were turned away due to the curfew rules.
Despite the challenges, the community came together to cheer on their team, and the city’s pride in their country has never been greater.
