Sanford is gearing up for its largest fireworks show ever to celebrate America’s 250th birthday following last year’s unexpected lightning incident. On July 4, 2025, at about 4 p.m., lightning hit a tree next to the marina, traveled underneath the pavement, hitting the controller, causing all the fireworks to go off.
Star-Spangled Sanford Event
The Star-Spangled Sanford event will kick off at 7 p.m. Saturday, featuring vendors, live music, and a kids zone. Large crowds are expected, and after the show, traffic will be directed out of the city using one-way streets.
The fireworks are being stored at the marina, the same location as last year, and are scheduled to light up the sky at 9:15 p.m. Saturday. To prevent any issues like last year’s, the mayor emphasized safety measures.
