Daneshia Cherry, a resident of Bowie County, Texas, has been named the July 2026 Volunteer of the Month by the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund (ASPSF). Cherry, a former scholarship recipient and single parent, has been volunteering with the organization to help create a welcoming and encouraging experience for fellow single parents.
Investing in the Community
Cherry’s connection to ASPSF began when she received a scholarship to pursue higher education while raising her family. Today, she is paying that support forward by volunteering with the organization. As an ASPSF alumnus, Cherry has assisted with scholarship applications, interviews, and award ceremonies, helping to empower single parents to complete their education and pursue higher-paying careers.
Cherry currently serves as Housing Director at Ark-Tex Council of Governments and remains committed to lifelong learning. A first-generation college graduate, she earned her bachelor of business administration from Texas A&M University in December 2025 and is currently halfway through her MBA program.
ASPSF is a statewide nonprofit dedicated to ending single-parent poverty through higher education. Since 1990, the organization has awarded more than $50 million in scholarships and provided services that empower single parents to complete their education and pursue higher-paying careers.
