The Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest is set to take place on July 4 in Coney Island, New York. Joey Chestnut, a 42-year-old competitive eater, will look to win his 18th title and second straight victory in the contest. Chestnut will face off against top-ranked women’s eating champion Miki Sudo, who holds 11 titles and the women’s record of 51 hot dogs.
Competition Details
The contest will be held on Saturday, July 4, with the women’s contest beginning at 10:45 a.m. ET and the men’s contest starting at 12 p.m. ET. The women’s contest will be shown on the ESPN app, while the men’s contest will be broadcast on ESPN2 and simulcast on ABC. Both contests will also be streamed on ESPN.com and the ESPN app.
Chestnut has won 17 of the 20 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contests he has competed in, including eight consecutive victories from 2007 to 2014. He finished third in his 2005 debut with 32 hot dogs and second in 2006 with 52 hot dogs. Chestnut’s top opponent will be Patrick Bertoletti, who won the contest during Chestnut’s absence in 2024 and finished as last year’s runner-up.
Rules and Prizes
The contest rules are simple: whoever eats the most hot dogs in 10 minutes is the winner. Competitors can be penalized for ‘messy eating’ and even disqualified for ‘reversal of fortune,’ which is a fancy way of saying ‘vomiting.’ The winners will be awarded $10,000 and the Mustard Belt, a WWE-like bedazzled championship belt with the Nathan’s logo on it.
