The American Junior Shorthorn Association (AJSA) held its 2026 National Junior Shorthorn Show & Youth Conference in Abilene, Texas, from June 20-27. The event brought together exhibitors from across the country to compete with their cattle and participate in various individual, state, and team contests.
Contests and Educational Aspect
The conference featured several contests, including the Cindys Livestock Photos Photography Contest, which allowed exhibitors to showcase their creativity through photographs featuring Shorthorn cattle. The Gypsy Creek Ranch Herdsman Quiz Bowl Contest tested participants’ knowledge of the Shorthorn breed, cattle industry, and beef industry in a fast-paced, team-based competition.
Executive Secretary and CEO of the American Shorthorn Association, Montie Soules, emphasized the importance of the educational contests, stating that they provide leadership and communication skills for junior exhibitors that will advance them in their lifelong goals.
Results and Participation
The photography contest and quiz bowl contest saw participation from youth across different age groups. The winners of the photography contest included Knox Neumayr, Kensi Cash, and Aubree Schroeder in the Prospector I category, while the quiz bowl contest was won by the Oklahoma 1 team.
