Wymore Road in Maitland, Florida, has reopened after Orange County completed repairs on a 40-foot sinkhole that opened about seven weeks earlier. The county’s Roads and Drainage crew worked tirelessly to stabilize and pave over the sinkhole, repaving about 1,100 feet of roadway in the process.
The sinkhole first appeared on May 15, damaging a woman’s car as she accidentally drove into it during dark morning conditions. Stability tests were completed in mid-June to finish the repairs, which included pumping over 20,000 gallons of water into the sinkhole to test its stability.
The county praised the Roads and Drainage crew for their skill, teamwork, and determination in completing the repairs ahead of schedule. The reopening of Wymore Road is a welcome relief for local residents and commuters who rely on the road for daily travel.
