A heat wave sweeping across the eastern United States is threatening to cancel the ‘A Capitol Fourth’ concert in Washington, D.C. The United States Capitol Police announced that the public viewing of the rehearsal for the annual holiday concert special has been canceled due to the weather.
Concert Details
The concert, which is scheduled for July 3, will feature performances by Chicago, Patti LaBelle, and Trace Adkins, among others. The event is nonpartisan and is not affiliated with Freedom 250 or America250. The National Weather Service has forecast an extreme heat watch for Washington, D.C., with temperatures expected to exceed 100 degrees.
The concert’s executive producer, Michael Colbert, said that the new date was chosen to get a jump start on a busy weekend of celebrating the country’s independence. If the weather doesn’t get in the way, the concert will be broadcast live at 8 p.m. ET on PBS stations nationwide and will also be streamed on YouTube.
