Alexandra Eala, a 21-year-old tennis player from the Philippines, made history at Wimbledon by becoming the first player from her country to reach the third round of a Grand Slam.
Breaking New Ground
Eala, who is contesting only her sixth Grand Slam tournament, defeated Australia’s Maya Joint in a thrilling match, winning 3-6 6-2 6-0. She will face defending champion Iga Swiatek on Saturday.
Eala, who trains at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca, is proud of her heritage and had a slogan ‘Kapag lumago, hindi na hihinto’ imprinted on her kit, which roughly translates to ‘once it grows, it cannot be stopped’.
She is the only player from the Philippines in the main draw at Wimbledon and is flying the flag with pride. Eala’s achievement is a significant milestone for Philippines tennis and a testament to her hard work and dedication.
