A University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) student, Kevin Vasquez, 24, is studying business and entrepreneurship with the goal of one day owning a cafe and restaurant where he can host social events for the community to meet new people.
Walk and Talk Event
Vasquez’s idea to bring total strangers together on Dallas’ Katy Trail started when his cousin invited him to walk and talk on the trail before work. After switching jobs and no longer being able to attend, Vasquez was inspired by a friend from church who wanted to walk and talk on the trail on Thursday nights. This led to the creation of a weekly Walk & Talk event, where participants are randomly partnered up to walk with someone new, in hopes of forming real friendships.
The event, which takes place every Friday, weather permitting, has grown significantly since its inception in January. With over 250 people now participating, Vasquez has witnessed numerous moments of connection among attendees.
The next Walk & Talk event is scheduled for July 3 at 7 PM, starting at the Thomsen Overlook on the Katy Trail.
