Noah Dingels, 11, and Cole Dingels, 8, of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, have been running a lemonade stand for five years to support veterans. The stand, which started at a golf tournament hosted by the nonprofit Tee It Up for the Troops, has raised a total of $60,000 for the organization.
Tee It Up for the Troops Mission
Tee It Up for the Troops is a national organization that hosts tournaments nationwide to support its six-pillar mission of helping American veterans when they return from war. The pillars include PTSD and traumatic brain injury support, suicide awareness and prevention, employment, sports and recreation, housing, and family and caregiver support.
The brothers’ efforts have been recognized by the community, with local sponsors supporting their mission. The boys have added candy bars and golf balls to their sales repertoire, with Snickers being a preferred choice among tournament players.
Community Support
The community has rallied around the brothers, with their classmates and sports teammates often stopping by the stand to offer support. The boys have also had the opportunity to meet and thank veterans for their service, including Harry Wisdom, a decorated U.S. Army helicopter pilot who was awarded a Silver Star for his heroism during the Vietnam War.
Wisdom, now 86, has become a special connection for the family, and last year, he presented the boys with his Silver Star as a sign of appreciation for their work in supporting veterans. The brothers’ mother, Angela, described the experience as ‘a really cool opportunity’ for her sons to show their patriotism and gratitude to veterans.
