A state-funded initiative aimed at closing New Mexico’s digital divide has equipped 170 families across 33 communities with laptop computers while providing nearly 1,600 digital training sessions over the past six months.
TechUp! New Mexico
The pilot program, known as TechUp! New Mexico, was funded through more than $300,000 from the New Mexico Office of Broadband Access and Expansion and implemented by Adelante DiverseIT. The initiative focused on expanding access to technology for residents in urban, rural and Tribal communities, with many participants receiving their first personal computer.
In addition to distributing laptops, the program offered technical support and digital literacy training through group classes, one-on-one instruction, phone assistance and email support.
Officials say the effort reflects the state’s broader strategy to ensure that expanding broadband infrastructure is matched by access to devices and the skills needed to use them effectively.
