As Alabama prepares to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary, state law enforcement agencies expect the state’s waterways to be busier than usual. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) and the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources are participating in ‘Operation Dry Water,’ a nationwide campaign dedicated to removing impaired operators from the waterways.
Boating Safety Tips
In 2025, ALEA arrested eight people for boating under the influence, and there were seven boating accidents on the water during the 4th of July holiday weekend. On the roadways, there were 12 fatal wrecks, and 19 people were arrested for driving under the influence.
ALEA and ADCNR held a media day at Lake Martin, urging drivers to make smart choices on Alabama’s roadways and waters this 4th of July weekend.
