The Adai Caddo Nation gathered at the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum in Shreveport to share their history, culture, and connection to the region. The presentation was part of the City of Shreveport’s America 250 speaker series, ‘The Threads That Bind Us,’ which highlights stories and contributions from communities connected to the area’s history.
Preserving Identity and Traditions
The Adai Caddo Nation is an Indigenous people with 10,000 years of history tied to present-day Louisiana and Texas. During the presentation, speakers discussed the tribe’s long-standing connection to the Caddo region and its survival through generations of change. They also highlighted the tribe’s involvement in major historical events, including the American Revolution, where historical records list the Adai Caddo as allies.
Chief John Davis said the event was a meaningful opportunity to represent the tribe during America’s 250th anniversary. ‘I think the main thing that I would like for just a typical lay person to take away is that we have always been here,’ Davis said. ‘We are you, and you are us. That’s how far it goes back.’ The Adai Caddo Nation currently has about 300 registered members, and events like the lecture help educate the public about the tribe’s history and contributions.
The Adai Caddo Nation will host a public pow wow on Oct. 18. More information about the tribe can be found at AdaiCaddo.com.
