Louisville is going plastic-free for the month of July to cut down on single-use waste. Mayor Craig Greenberg and the Office of Sustainability are launching the effort to encourage more sustainable choices throughout the community.
Reducing Waste
Mayor Greenberg says 87,000 tons of plastic is collected in Louisville every year, and most of that ends up in landfills. The city will be providing tips to cut down on single-use waste and highlighting local organizations choosing sustainable options.
The initiative is a month-long effort to reduce single-use plastic waste and encourage residents to make more sustainable choices. Residents are encouraged to take a selfie or video when using a reusable product and tag @SustainedLouisville and @NoWasteLouisville for a chance to win a custom travel mug from the Office of Sustainability.
