Bend, Oregon, is one of the busiest tourist destinations during the summer season, with the Fourth of July weekend being a peak time for visitors. Last year, the city welcomed around 9,500 visitors during this period, generating $2.2 million in tourism room taxes.
Tourism Drives Local Economy
The area’s natural attractions, such as its beautiful landscapes, rivers, lakes, hiking, and biking trails, make it an ideal destination for tourists. According to Tim Neville, communications manager for Visit Bend, the city’s appeal is undeniable. “Summertime here is just a popular time to be here for everyone. We have such beautiful landscapes and great river just flow and lakes and hiking and biking. It’s all the things we have wonderful food, cultural events, concerts. I mean, who doesn’t want to be here?”
Hotel rates in Bend reflect the high demand, with occupancy rates often reaching 80 to 90% during busy weekends. Room prices can go up to $220 per night, significantly higher than the $100 per night rate during the slower months like December.
