As the Fourth of July approaches, many of us are looking forward to spending time outdoors with family and friends. However, with summer in full swing, mosquitoes can be a nuisance. Molly Keck, an entomologist with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, suggests using products that contain essential oils from plants known to repel mosquitoes, such as citronella, eucalyptus, and lavender.
Mosquito Repellent Options
Keck recommends setting up candles and torches burning these essential oils in the area where you will be gathering. The closer you are to the candles or torches, the more effective they will be at repelling mosquitoes. Additionally, using an eco-friendly product like Mosquito Dunks in standing water around your yard can help kill mosquito larvae.
It’s also important to note that there is no silver bullet that will completely eliminate mosquitoes. However, by taking these steps, you can help create a more mosquito-free zone for your celebration.
