Bayer, the only US maker of glyphosate, has consolidated its US glyphosate business into its Ruveon unit. This move comes after the company sought duties against Chinese imports of the chemical used in its weedkiller Roundup.
Consolidation and Restructuring
The St. Louis-based Ruveon unit will oversee all aspects of US glyphosate sales, including pricing, go-to-market strategies, production, and logistics. Bayer stated that the consolidation of the business is part of its Crop Science division’s five-year restructuring plan.
Ruveon is expected to be a more nimble and well-positioned player within its commodity-based market, which requires a specialized approach to address competitive dynamics. The unit will be led by Bayer veteran Alfonso Alba Ordonez.
