Merrimack Valley Transit (MeVa) bus drivers and mechanics are on strike, affecting fixed-route bus operations in 16 cities and towns in Massachusetts, including Haverhill, Lawrence, and Methuen.
Strike Details
The strike, which began at 12 a.m. Wednesday, was called due to a dispute over the company’s proposal to incorporate Saturdays into regular schedules, which would affect workers’ overtime pay and family time.
Teamsters Local 170 members are picketing at 85 Railroad Ave. in Haverhill, and no negotiation meetings are scheduled at this time.
Lawrence Mayor Brian A. DePeña has warned residents about the potential disruption of MeVa transit services and encouraged them to plan ahead and make alternate transportation arrangements, especially given the extreme heat expected in the region.
