As summer entertaining comes with more relaxed menus and an abundance of seasonal fruits and vegetables, local bartenders are sharing their favorite summer cocktails. According to Fred Siggins, author of “Equal Parts Cocktails: The Simple Ratio for Spectacular Drinks”, making good cocktails at home can be easy with a simple 1:1:1 ratio of ingredients.
Local Favorites
Aaron Trentadue, beverage director at F&F Pizzeria in Mt. Lebanon, agrees that a smart approach to entertaining is to focus on the balance of a three-component cocktail. Elva Li, a bartender at Okane Sushi, Downtown, favors drinks with only a few seasonal ingredients that still pack a punch with amazing flavor.
Some popular trends in cocktails include agave spirits, tropical and spicy flavors, and spirit-free and low-alcohol options. Local bartenders are also creating unique flavor profiles by fermenting fresh fruits and peppers.
Recipes
Some local recipes include the Pistachio Sour, made with Japanese Toki Whisky, lemon juice, and pistachio simple syrup, and the El Diablo Verde, made with Reposado tequila, verdita juice, and fresh lime juice.
