People gathered in downtown Fort Smith to watch Arkansas National Guard helicopters fly low over the city as part of a statewide celebration of America’s 250th birthday.
Community Support
The flyover also passed over Greenwood and Ozark city halls as Arkansas Army National Guard Blackhawks made their way across the state. Sgt. Kourtney Murray said, “It’s awesome to fly over all these cities and see all the people down there waving and flying flags.”
Fort Smith resident and veteran Sharon Blake said, “I love America. I’m proud to be a veteran. And I just love being here in Fort Smith.” Murray added that the National Guard appreciated the public support and the chance to connect with communities across the state.
The flyovers are scheduled to continue Thursday in Northwest Arkansas, with helicopters expected to fly over Eureka Springs, Pea Ridge, Bentonville, and Springdale from 10 to 11 a.m., and over Fayetteville, West Fork, and Huntsville from 1 to 2 p.m.
