The Media Research Center (MRC) has petitioned the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to deny the license renewal of ABC, citing the network’s alleged partisan bias and failure to serve the public interest.
Allegations of Partisanship
The MRC claims that ABC operates like a ‘partisan cable network,’ peddling falsehoods, suppressing actual journalism, and justifying political violence. The watchdog group has reviewed nearly 50,000 hours of ABC programming over 38 years and produced hundreds of studies detailing the network’s systemic bias, dishonesty, and partisan activism.
MRC President David Bozell stated that ‘broadcast licenses are a privilege, not an entitlement.’ He argued that if ABC wants to operate like a partisan cable network, it should give up the benefits reserved for broadcast licensees.
FCC Investigation
The FCC is investigating ABC’s ‘The View’ amid the agency’s crackdown on equal time for political candidates. The MRC has submitted 2,473 separate pieces of evidence documenting ‘The View’s’ pervasive bias and willful electioneering.
ABC has launched an on-air campaign encouraging viewers to support ‘The View’ and submit public comments to the FCC. Over 100,000 public comments have been submitted in support of ABC.
